Working on a PC
Let an AI assistant help (MCP)
Connect an AI assistant such as Claude Code to your PCs and servers through RemoteAccessApp, with the same Allow prompt and banner as anyone else.
The MCP Desktop Connection lets an AI assistant that speaks MCP (Model Context Protocol), such as Claude Code, work on your PCs and SSH servers through RemoteAccessApp. It can take screenshots, click, type and run commands, and it asks the PC first, just like you would.
It's part of RemoteAccessApp Pro. On the free plan nothing connects. Free, Pro and billing explains what else Pro adds and how to get it.
Set it up
- Install RemoteAccessApp on the PC where your assistant runs, and sign in with Keep me signed in on this PC ticked.
- Open AI assistants in the sidebar. It shows the exact setup for your assistant. Click Copy (or Connect, where the page offers it).
- For Claude Code, run that command once in a terminal (in Claude Code, you can type it with a ! in front). For the others, paste it into the settings file listed below.
- Restart the assistant and check that RemoteAccessApp shows as connected in its list of MCP servers.
The switch Let AI assistants use RemoteAccessApp (MCP) on the same page turns it on or off for this PC.
Each assistant
The server is always added under the name remotedesk. Other MCP servers you already have are left as they are.
- Claude Code:
claude mcp add --scope user remotedesk -- "<path to RemoteAccessApp's MCP server>". The page shows the exact command for this PC. - Claude Desktop: an entry under
mcpServersinclaude_desktop_config.json. Restart Claude Desktop afterwards. - Codex (in the ChatGPT desktop app, the Codex CLI and the IDE extension, which share one setting): a
[mcp_servers.remotedesk]table withcommandandargsin Codex's settings file (in the.codexfolder in your home folder). You can also runcodex mcp add remotedesk -- "<path>". - Cursor: an entry under
mcpServers, with"type": "stdio", in Cursor's global MCP settings (the.cursorfolder in your home folder). - Windsurf: an entry under
mcpServersin~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json. - VS Code (Copilot agent mode): run MCP: Open User Configuration and add an entry under
serverswith"type": "stdio". - ChatGPT's chat (web and app) only connects to MCP servers on the internet, so it can't start RemoteAccessApp on your PC. Use Codex instead.
If a settings file has comments or isn't plain JSON, RemoteAccessApp leaves it alone and you can paste the setup in yourself.
What the person at the PC sees
The assistant is treated like any other visitor. The Allow remote access? prompt names it, for example "Claude Code via RemoteAccessApp MCP", and the Remote session active notice stays on screen while it's connected. A view-only PC accepts no input from it.
Keep an eye on it
The AI assistants page shows which PCs an assistant is connected to and what it's doing, and a badge in the sidebar counts them. You can disconnect it from there at any time.
New SSH servers work the same way: the assistant checks the server's key, shows it to you, and only trusts it once you confirm. See server keys.
