Switch from MobaXterm

Switch from MobaXterm: SSH, SFTP, RDP and your PCs, free at work

MobaXterm's free Home Edition can't be deployed inside a company, and moving files between servers or reaching a PC behind a router still means extra steps or extra tools.

RemoteAccessApp gives you SSH tabs, SFTP and FTP file managers, server-to-server copies and saved RDP and VNC, plus your Windows PCs through any router, in one window. Free for commercial use.

  • SSH, SFTP, RDP and VNC
  • Server-to-server copies
  • Remote desktop to your PCs

Fed up with MobaXterm? Here's what changes

  • Free edition isn't for company deployment

With MobaXterm: MobaXterm's license says the Home Edition can't be deployed or shared inside a company: the person using it must be the one who downloaded and installed it. Deployment needs the Professional Edition.

With RemoteAccessApp: RemoteAccessApp's free plan allows commercial use, and IT can install it for every user with /ALLUSERS.

  • Server to server is a round trip

With MobaXterm: Moving files between two servers usually means downloading them to your PC, then uploading them again.

With RemoteAccessApp: Stream files between two SFTP or FTP servers with no temporary copy, or upload to many at once, with resume and verify. Switching from FileZilla walks through these copies.

  • PCs behind routers

With MobaXterm: Its RDP and VNC sessions are clients for those protocols, so a PC behind a router needs a VPN or port forwarding.

With RemoteAccessApp: PCs with the free Agent connect out, so you control them from anywhere.

More reasons to switch

  • Remote desktop to your PCs

Windows PCs with the free Agent connect out, so you control them from anywhere with no VPN or port forwarding, and run commands on many at once.

  • Server-to-server copies

Stream files between two SFTP or FTP servers without a temporary copy, or upload to many servers at once, with resume and verify. Server-to-server transfers.

  • Your hosts everywhere

Your host list follows your account to every PC you sign in on, and SSH hosts open in a browser terminal on any device. Switching from mRemoteNG looks at the same synced list.

  • Scripts on many servers

Save scripts, send one command to every open SSH tab, or run a script on many hosts with each one's output and exit code.

  • Teams (Pro)

Share chosen PCs and hosts with colleagues, with roles and per-PC permissions. Switching from Remote Desktop Manager covers team sharing too.

Switch from MobaXterm in 2 minutes

What carries over, what doesn't and tips for each kind of tool are in the switching guide.

  1. Step 1: Install RemoteAccessApp and sign in

Download the free installer for Windows 10 or 11 and choose the Console. It installs without administrator rights. Create a free account if you don't have one.

  2. Step 2: Bring your hosts across

On the Connections tab, click the arrow next to Add host, then Import from file… and choose your MobaXterm.ini or a .mxtsessions export. Your sessions show in a list, with their folders, before anything is added. Passwords are never imported. Your MobaXterm setup stays as it is. Import saved sessions.

  3. Step 3: Import your keys

Import your private keys for key sign-in: OpenSSH, PEM and PuTTY .ppk keys are read, passphrase-protected ones included. Passwords are never imported: you're asked for each one the first time, and can save it encrypted on your PC.

  4. Step 4: Check each server's key and connect

The first time you connect, compare the host key fingerprint with the one you expect and trust it. A server whose key changes later is refused with a warning.

  5. Step 5: Add your PCs

Install RemoteAccessApp on the Windows PCs you look after and choose Set up this PC. Then run one command on several of them from the Devices page.
