One-time support code

Help someone with a one-time code

Someone needs a hand with their PC, but it isn't one of yours. They open RemoteAccessApp and read you the 8-digit code on its Home screen. You type it in, they click Allow, and you can see and fix the problem together. Neither of you needs an account.

The code works once. Their app shows a new one after each session, and every 10 minutes.

  • No account needed
  • They click Allow first
  • Free

How it works

  1. Step 1: They read you their code

They open RemoteAccessApp on their Windows or Linux PC. Their code is on Home, under This PC's code, like 4829 1530.

  2. Step 2: You type the code

In your RemoteAccessApp, type it under Connect to a PC on Home and click Connect. No account needed. On the website, sign in and open Dashboard → Help someone instead.

  3. Step 3: They allow it

Their PC asks them to allow you, with your name (and your email if you're signed in). Once they click Allow, you see their screen and can use their mouse and keyboard, and you can chat.

Safe for the person you're helping

  • Nothing without their Allow

Every help session asks first, and says who is asking. If nobody answers, the answer is no.
  • They can end it any time

A banner stays on their screen for the whole session, with an End button.
  • One code, one session

A code works once. Their app shows a new one after each session and every 10 minutes.
  • Not in your account

Their PC isn't added to your account. Only they can turn on unattended access, at their PC.
  • Recent PCs

Your app keeps their PC in Recent PCs, so you can reconnect later. They still click Allow, unless they chose otherwise.
  • Talk while you work

Chat with them during the session, right from the session window.

Only give your code to someone you asked for help

Nobody genuine calls out of the blue asking for a code. If someone you didn't contact asks you for one, say no and hang up.

Helping the same PC often?

Use Recent PCs to reconnect without a new code. If you look after a PC regularly, a family member's for example, you can also sign in (free) and add it to your own account, so it's on your phone and in any browser too. See how to help a family member remotely.

Not signed in yet? The help article on how to use it without an account and sign in later explains what a free account adds and how your Recent PCs come with you when you sign in.

Out with only your phone? You can still help: sign in on the website and use the code there. Here's how to help family with their PC from your phone, with touch tips that work on a small screen.
