Internet speed test for remote access

Measures the latency and download speed between this device and the RemoteAccessApp server - the two numbers that decide how smooth a remote desktop session feels.

A quick check with a small test file (about 2 MB), never cached, so the numbers are a rough guide rather than your line's full speed.

What do the numbers mean?

Latency is how long a message takes to get to the server and back. Under 80 ms feels instant; above 200 ms you'll notice the pointer trailing a little. In the app, sessions to your PCs go through a relay, and the relay location setting shows the ping to each one, and on Automatic the app picks one for you.

Download speed is how fast the screen can reach you. A remote desktop session usually needs a few megabits per second; more makes it sharper when lots of the screen changes.

On a VPN, the test measures the route through it; what's my IP address shows whether your traffic is going out through the VPN. RemoteAccessApp needs no open ports, but if you set up port forwarding for something else, you can check whether a port is open from the internet.
