Connection problems
Slow or choppy sessions
Make a laggy or blurry remote screen smoother. Check the connection, pick a lighter codec, show one monitor and close what's using the network.
See what the session is doing
During a session, open Display in the toolbar. It shows Right now with the codec in use, whether it's using the graphics card (hardware) or the processor (software), and the frames per second. That tells you whether the picture or the network is the problem. Remote desktop latency explained simply covers what delay, frame rate and bandwidth each mean.
Quick fixes
- Check both ends. A slow upload at the PC you're reaching matters most, because the screen is sent from there. Wi-Fi far from the router, mobile data and busy networks all add delay. For PCs in your account, relay location shows the ping to each relay and lets you pick one.
- Close what's using the network: big downloads, cloud backups, video calls or streaming on either PC.
- Show one monitor. In Display, pick a single Monitor instead of All monitors. Fewer pixels means a faster picture. The multi-monitor remote desktop guide shows how to switch between screens.
- Make the window smaller, or fit the screen to the window, so less has to be drawn.
- Try another codec. In Display, under Codec, Auto picks the best both PCs support. If an older PC struggles, try H.264. Classic is the most compatible and works anywhere.
You can set the codec new sessions start with in Settings, under Screen streaming.
Several PCs at once
Each open session sends its own screen. With many sessions side by side, close the ones you aren't using, or switch Live sessions from Grid to Focus so one PC gets the full picture.
On the same network
PCs on your local network can use PyroWave (LAN) for very low delay, but only over a direct local-network connection with a fast link and a recent graphics driver on both PCs. Anywhere else the session picks the next best codec by itself. See relay or direct connections.
Still slow?
If it's slow even when the network is quiet, check the Server status page from both PCs, and contact support with the time it happened and what Display showed.
Still stuck? Email [email protected] with your app version (Settings, About) and what you were trying to do. In the app, Help, Contact support fills that in.
