Working on a PC

Split view and workspaces

See several PCs or servers side by side, save a layout as a workspace, send one command to many terminals, and the keyboard shortcuts that help.

Live sessions: Grid and Focus

When several PCs are open, Live sessions can show them as a Grid, all side by side, or in Focus, one at a time with the others a click away. Ctrl+Alt+PgUp and Ctrl+Alt+PgDn switch between sessions. Mirror input (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+M) sends your mouse and keyboard to all of them; see control several PCs at once.

If your PCs aren't all in one account yet, how to remote desktop into multiple computers covers the setup.

Connections: tabs and panes

On the Connections page, Sessions shows every open session as a tab. See hosts and sessions. Serial (COM port) connections open there too, so a switch's console can sit next to your SSH sessions.

Tabs can sit side by side in one, two, three, four, six or eight panes. Pick a layout from the layout button, drag a tab into another pane, or split the current pane with Ctrl+\ (right) and Ctrl+Shift+\ (down). To open the same host again beside a tab, right-click it and pick Duplicate (Ctrl+Shift+D).

Useful shortcuts there:

  • Ctrl+K or Ctrl+T: start a session (find a host or type an address).
  • Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+8: jump to a pane.
  • Ctrl+Shift+D: duplicate the tab.
  • Ctrl+Shift+M: make one pane fill the page. Esc puts it back.
  • Ctrl+W: close the tab.

Workspaces

A workspace remembers a layout and the hosts in it, so you can come back to the same setup.

  • Save this layout as a workspace… saves what's open now.
  • Open (connect each when you click it) brings the layout back without connecting yet.
  • Open and connect all connects everything at once.

Broadcast to several terminals

Turn on Broadcast to type one command for several SSH tabs. Pick them from the chips, type in Command for the selected SSH tabs…, and press Enter or click Send to (it shows how many tabs). Esc stops broadcasting.

To copy files to many servers at once, use Send to servers… (Ctrl+Shift+U).
