Switch from TeamViewer

Leave TeamViewer behind: free remote access you can use for work

TeamViewer's free version is for personal use only, and its own knowledge base says checking your work PC from home or helping a customer counts as commercial. Get flagged, and your free sessions can time out until you buy a license or ask for a reset.

RemoteAccessApp is a free remote desktop app for Windows 10 and 11 and Linux whose free plan covers 5 PCs for personal and work use, with unattended access, access from any browser, and SSH, SFTP, RDP and VNC in the same app.

  • Free for work use, 5 PCs
  • Unattended and browser access free
  • SSH, SFTP, RDP and VNC included

Fed up with TeamViewer? Here's what changes

  • Free is for personal use only

With TeamViewer: TeamViewer's license limits its free version to personal, non-commercial use, and its knowledge base counts checking your work computer from home and supporting customers or colleagues as commercial use.

With RemoteAccessApp: RemoteAccessApp's free plan is for personal and commercial use: 5 PCs and 5 saved hosts, 3 open at once. No card. The same free plan comes up in switching from AnyDesk.

  • Commercial-use flags and timeouts

With TeamViewer: TeamViewer's knowledge base has a page for free users who are 'suspected' or 'detected' of commercial use or get a connection timeout, with a form to ask for a reset.

With RemoteAccessApp: There's nothing to be flagged for: work use is allowed on the free plan, and sessions have no time limit. It isn't a trial either, as switching from LogMeIn Pro explains.

  • Browser access needs a license

With TeamViewer: TeamViewer describes its web client as being for licensed accounts.

With RemoteAccessApp: Open your PCs from any browser on the free plan, on a Mac, a Chromebook, a phone or a tablet.

  • Another app for your servers

With TeamViewer: If you also look after Linux servers, you're probably running a separate SSH and SFTP client next to your remote desktop tool.

With RemoteAccessApp: SSH terminal tabs, SFTP and FTP file managers, server-to-server copies, RDP and VNC are in the same app, free.

More reasons to switch

  • Free for work, not only at home

The free plan covers up to 5 PCs and 5 saved hosts, with 3 open at once, for personal and commercial use alike. No card, and no session time limit.

  • Browser access on the free plan

Sign in at remoteaccessapp.com on a Mac, a Chromebook, a phone or another PC and open your Windows PCs, with touch controls on phones. It works the same on every plan, a point the NoMachine comparison makes too. Browser access.

  • Your servers in the same app

An SSH terminal in tabs, SFTP and FTP file managers, server-to-server copies, and saved RDP and VNC connections sit next to your PCs. SSH and SFTP client.

  • The person at the PC always knows

Unless unattended access was turned on at the PC, they click Allow first, and a banner stays on their screen during every session with chat, view-only and quit. Nobody has to confirm again partway through, as switching from Chrome Remote Desktop explains.

  • AI help, under the same rules

With Pro, an MCP server lets Claude Code work on your PCs and servers, and the PC's banner names the assistant. AI remote support.

Switch from TeamViewer if

  • You want a free plan you can use for work, for up to 5 Windows PCs.
  • You want to open your PCs from a browser or phone without paying.
  • You look after servers too and want SSH, SFTP, RDP and VNC next to your PCs.
  • You want the person at the PC to see a banner every time, with view-only and quit buttons. Switching from Parsec covers the same support focus.

Switch from TeamViewer in 2 minutes

What carries over, what doesn't and tips for each kind of tool are in the switching guide.

  1. Step 1: Create a free RemoteAccessApp account

Sign up with your email. No card is needed, and the free plan covers 5 PCs.

  2. Step 2: Install RemoteAccessApp on each PC you want to reach

Download the installer, choose Set up this PC and sign in, or type the 6-digit setup code from Add a PC on your dashboard. It installs without administrator rights, next to TeamViewer.

  3. Step 3: Turn on unattended access on your own PCs

If nobody will be at a PC when you connect, switch on unattended access at that PC (right-click the RemoteAccessApp icon in the taskbar tray). How to do it safely.

  4. Step 4: Connect from the app or a browser

Open the RemoteAccessApp Console on your own PC, or sign in at remoteaccessapp.com in any browser, and try each PC while you still have the old tool as a fallback.

  5. Step 5: Remove what you no longer use

Once every PC works, uninstall remote access tools you don't need any more from Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Fewer ways in means fewer things to keep secure.
