Getting started

The "Windows protected your PC" warning

Windows may warn you the first time you run the RemoteAccessApp installer. Here's why, and how to continue safely.

Why it appears

Windows SmartScreen warns about programs it hasn't seen many people download yet. RemoteAccessApp is code-signed by its publisher, Rust Games Australia Pty Ltd, but a signature builds its download history over time, so for a while Windows may still show a blue window that says Windows protected your PC.

The warning doesn't mean anything is wrong with the file. It means Windows doesn't know it well yet. Under More info, the publisher shows as RUST GAMES AUSTRALIA PTY LTD. You can also check the signature in the file's Properties, as our post RemoteAccessApp for Windows is now code-signed shows.

How to continue

  1. Make sure you downloaded the installer from the RemoteAccessApp website's Download page.
  2. In the blue window, click More info.
  3. Check the app name and that the publisher is RUST GAMES AUSTRALIA PTY LTD, then click Run anyway.

The installer then starts as usual. If Windows asks for administrator approval, choose Yes on a PC you'll reach remotely: an install for all users, with unattended access on, lets you click windows that run as administrator, such as Task Manager. See an admin window is blocking my clicks.

Only do this for an installer you downloaded yourself from remoteaccessapp.com. If you didn't download it, or it came from somewhere else, don't run it.

Updates don't show this warning

The warning is about installers you download in a browser. Once it's installed, RemoteAccessApp keeps itself up to date, and every update is checked against RemoteAccessApp's own signature before it installs. See automatic updates.

If your browser blocks the download

Some browsers also warn about files they haven't seen often. Open your browser's downloads list and choose to keep the file, then run it as above.

Still stuck? Email [email protected] with your app version (Settings, About) and what you were trying to do. In the app, Help, Contact support fills that in.
