Working on a PC

Copy, paste and send files from your phone

In a browser session on your phone, paste from the phone onto the PC, copy what the PC copied to your phone, send or get files, and hear the PC's sound.

When you open a PC in your phone's browser, the Clipboard and files sheet moves text, pictures and files between the phone and the PC. It works on computers too. Clipboard sync and sending or getting files are free with an account.

Paste from your phone onto the PC

  • Tap Paste at the bottom right of the screen. What you copied on the phone is pasted where the PC's cursor is.
  • The first time, your phone may show its own Paste button or ask to allow it. Tap it.
  • If your browser doesn't let the page read the clipboard, the sheet opens with a box: touch and hold in it, tap Paste, then send it.
  • Pictures you copied on the phone are pasted as pictures.
  • In the sheet, choose Paste it on the PC or Only copy it there (then paste it on the PC yourself).

The phone keyboard's key strip and the PC keyboard have the same paste key.

Copy from the PC to your phone

  1. Copy something on the PC (Ctrl+C), or select it and tap Copy selection in the sheet.
  2. A note says Copied on PC. Tap Copy to phone.
  3. Copied pictures show up as PC copied a picture. Tap Show, then Save or Share.

Phones never copy to their clipboard by themselves, so this always takes one tap. On a computer with the page in front, what the PC copies is copied straight away.

Send files from your phone to the PC

  1. Open Clipboard and files (the arrows button) and tap Files.
  2. Tap Choose photos or files. You can take a photo, or pick from your gallery or files.
  3. They arrive on the PC in Downloads > RemoteDesk (on Linux, ~/Downloads/RemoteDesk). A file there is never replaced.

On a computer you can also drop files on the screen.

Get files from the PC

  1. In Files, under Get from PC, open the folders. The shortcuts jump to Desktop, Documents, Downloads and received files.
  2. Tap a file to copy it to your phone.
  3. Tap Save to keep it, or Share to save it to Photos or Files, or send it in a message. On a computer it goes straight to Downloads.

Files up to 2 GB can be copied this way. Your phone holds the file until you save it, so for very large files use the RemoteAccessApp Console to send files to and from a PC.

Hear the PC's sound

Sound is off when a session opens. To hear the PC, open Session settings (the gear) and turn on Hear the PC's sound. Turn it off the same way. It works on phones and computers.

  • It's part of RemoteAccessApp Pro, as in the app.
  • The person at the PC can turn off Share sound during sessions. The switch then says sound is off there.
  • If an iPhone or iPad plays nothing, check its volume and that it isn't on silent.
  • It needs a current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. If yours can't play it, the switch says so.

Good to know

  • The PC keeps a record of the files copied from it, and the session banner shows the whole time.
  • A view-only PC, or a session from a one-time help code, doesn't share its files.
  • Clipboard contents are never stored or logged. A copied picture only travels when you tap Show.
  • To hide the Paste button, open Session settings and turn off Paste button on the screen.
