Account and security

Trusted browsers, consoles and networks

How a PC remembers the consoles and browsers it trusts, how long, how to remove them, and how to limit your account or a PC to trusted networks.

"Trusted" means two different things in RemoteAccessApp: a browser your account remembers at sign-in, and a console or browser a PC remembers so it doesn't ask again.

Browsers you sign in on

When you sign in on the website with an email code, you can tick Remember this browser for 30 days. That browser then signs in without a new code. Don't tick it on a shared computer.

Consoles and browsers a PC remembers

When you connect from a browser, the person at the PC chooses how long to remember it in the Allow remote access? prompt: 1 hour, 8 hours, 1 day, 7 days, or Until I turn it off. That includes the browser on your phone, where you can also copy, paste and send files from your phone. Consoles are remembered when they're allowed with unattended access ticked (see set up unattended access).

To see or remove them, at the PC:

  1. Right-click the RemoteAccessApp icon next to the clock.
  2. Click Trusted consoles and browsers….
  3. Remove any you no longer use.

The setting Let my own account in without asking (apps and browsers) in the same window lets you in from anywhere you're signed in to your own account, while unattended access is on. It's on by default. A console or browser removed in this window is asked again with the Allow prompt. Your account opens your PCs, so protect it with two-factor sign-in.

A PC with a connection password keeps a separate list of the devices that remember that password, under See list… in its password window. Sharing a PC through teams and roles doesn't change any of this: the person at the PC is still asked to allow a team member unless the PC trusts their console.

Trusted networks

You can limit where your account can be used, or where consoles may connect to a PC from:

  • Your account: in the app, Settings, then Account. Add your current network with Add this IP, add others, and Save. The website's Security page lists them, but you change them in the app.
  • One PC: on the Devices page, right-click the PC and choose Commands, then Restrict by IP…. Consoles can then only connect to it from the networks you list. An empty list allows any network.
  • Several PCs in the app: on the Devices page, select the PCs (Ctrl+click, or drag a box over them), right-click one of them and choose Commands, then Restrict n PCs by IP…. They all get the same list. If their lists were different, it starts empty and says so. After saving you see which PCs took it.
  • Several PCs on the website: on Your PCs, tick the PCs (or drag a box over them), then choose Restrict by IP… in the bar at the bottom. They all get the same list, and you see which PCs were saved. On a phone, use a PC's … menu.

If you see "This account can only be used from its trusted networks", you're on a network that isn't in the list. Add it from a network that is. The app won't save a list that would lock out the network you're on now.

Removing a trusted console or browser takes effect at once. The next time it connects, the PC asks again.
