Getting started
Set up unattended access
Reach your own PC when nobody is there to click Allow. It's turned on at the PC itself, and you choose which consoles it trusts.
Unattended access lets your console connect to a PC without anyone clicking Allow. It's meant for your own PCs. It can only be turned on by someone at the PC, never from far away alone. With several PCs to set up, the guide to unattended access on multiple computers takes you through each one in order.
Turn it on at the PC
- On the PC you want to reach, right-click the RemoteAccessApp icon next to the clock.
- Click Unattended access so it's ticked.
- Connect once from your console (see connect to your first PC). When the Allow remote access? prompt appears at the PC, tick Let this console connect without asking next time (unattended) and click Allow.
From then on, that console connects straight away. Other consoles and browsers still have to be allowed, unless they're signed in to your own account (see below).
Setting up many virtual machines? Turn it on in one, then clone a VM that's in your account: each copy keeps unattended access and the consoles it trusts.
PCs that aren't in an account
On a PC that isn't in an account (see use it without an account), unattended access is off until the person at that PC turns it on: on Home, with the Unattended access switch, or from the RemoteAccessApp icon next to the clock. They confirm it on that PC. Nobody can turn it on from another computer.
If a PC leaves its account (someone signs out of RemoteAccessApp on it, chooses Remove this PC from the account, or removes it from the account elsewhere), unattended access turns off and the consoles it trusted are forgotten. The PC's activity history says: "Unattended access was turned off because this PC left the account." Everyone is asked to Allow again until someone at the PC turns it back on.
Ask for it from the Console
You can also right-click the PC on the Devices page and choose Unattended access. The person at the PC still has to agree on that PC before it turns on. This works for PCs in your account only.
How you can tell
PCs with unattended access show an Unattended pill on their tile and in the session toolbar. The PC still shows the Remote session active notice whenever someone is connected.
With unattended access on, Allow remote control stays on too, so you can use the mouse and keyboard.
Your own account in browsers
In the same menu, Trusted consoles and browsers… lists every console and browser the PC remembers. You can remove any of them there. The setting Let my own account in without asking (apps and browsers) lets you in from anywhere you're signed in to the account that owns the PC. It's on by default; turn it off and your own consoles are asked too. Your account opens your PCs, so protect it with two-factor sign-in. See trusted browsers and consoles.
Keep it reachable
- Leave Start RemoteAccessApp with Windows on, so the PC is reachable after a restart.
- Add a connection password for an extra check before anyone connects.
- To reach the PC from a computer it doesn't know yet, with nobody there, set a permanent password for your PC at the PC.
- With Pro, the Discord and Slack commands show whether the PC is online and can restart it from chat.
- Turn unattended access off from the same menu whenever you like.
