Two-factor sign-in and email codes
Protect your account with an authenticator app and backup codes, and what to do when a sign-in code is wrong, expired or never arrives.
Sign in with Google or GitHub
On the sign-in or sign-up page, click Continue with Google or Continue with GitHub. The first time, this creates a free account with that email address, with no password and no form. In the app, the same buttons open your web browser to approve, then the app signs in by itself.
- We only get your name, email address and your account ID there. We get no access to anything else in that account.
- Linking Discord or Slack for the /pc commands is separate from signing in: see Discord and Slack commands.
- Two-factor authentication still asks for its code.
- No password yet? On the website go to Dashboard, then Security, then Sign-in methods, and click Set a password. We email you a link to set one.
- Without a password, turning two-factor on or off, showing your license key, downloading your data or deleting your account doesn't ask for one, but only works within 15 minutes of signing in. If it says to sign in again, click Sign in again and try once more.
- "An account already uses that email": sign in with your password instead, or confirm the email address with Google or GitHub first.
Email sign-in codes
Without two-factor authentication, signing in on a new browser or PC asks for a 6-digit code that we email you.
- Type it in Code from the email. Codes work for 10 minutes.
- No email? Check your spam folder, then click Send a new code.
- On the website you can tick Remember this browser for 30 days so you're not asked again on that browser. Don't use it on a shared computer. PCs remember browsers separately: see trusted browsers, consoles and networks.
Turn on two-factor authentication
Two-factor authentication asks for a code from an authenticator app on your phone every time you sign in, instead of the email code.
- In the app: Settings, then Account, then Two-factor authentication, and click Set up.
- On the website: Dashboard, then Security, then Two-factor authentication, and click Turn on.
Scan the QR code with your authenticator app, type the code it shows, and save your 10 backup codes somewhere safe. They're shown once. Each backup code works once, if you lose your phone.
"That code didn't work"
- Use the newest code: authenticator codes change every 30 seconds.
- Check the time on your phone is set automatically. A clock that's a minute or two off gives wrong codes.
- Lost your phone? Sign in with one of your backup codes, then set up two-factor again and get new backup codes.
"That code has expired"
Email codes last 10 minutes. Click Send a new code and use the newest email.
Turn it off or get new backup codes
In the same place, Get new backup codes (app) or New backup codes (website) replaces your old ones, and Turn off removes two-factor authentication. You'll be asked to confirm.
Still stuck? Email [email protected] with your app version (Settings, About) and what you were trying to do. In the app, Help, Contact support fills that in.
