Working on a PC
Send files to and from a PC
Drop files on a remote screen, browse a PC's folders, send the same files to several PCs at once, and what to do when a transfer fails.
File transfer is free: you just need to be signed in to a RemoteAccessApp account. A connection made with only a code, without an account, can't send or get files, but you can still send files in the chat. To copy files to and from servers, use SFTP and FTP on the Connections page.
During a session
- Drop files on the remote screen to send them to that PC. They arrive in the Downloads folder there.
- Send files in the session toolbar picks files to send. Browse files opens that PC's folders, so you can download from it too.
- With clipboard sync on, copy files on your PC and paste them on the remote one.
- In a web browser (on a phone too): open Clipboard and files (the arrows button), then Files. Send to PC picks files or photos; Get from PC opens the PC's folders so you can copy a file to your phone and save or share it. See Copy, paste and send files from your phone.
The File transfer page
Open File transfer in the sidebar, or right-click a PC on the Devices page.
- Browse a PC: pick a PC and move through its folders. Select files and click Upload or Download.
- Send to several PCs: choose the PCs, add files, and click Send. Each PC gets its own copy, and the list shows how each one went.
The Transfers list shows progress. Cancel all stops everything that's still going.
Moving a big folder or a virtual machine? Send large files between your PCs has tips, like using a network cable and pausing cloud backups while you copy. To copy between one of your PCs and a server, or between two servers, open a transfer tab: see copy files between two servers.
In the chat
Attach a file to a chat message, on any plan. The person at the PC sees it in their chat window and can open or save it.
When a transfer fails
- Transfer failed with a reason: read the reason first. A full disk, a file that's open in another program, or a folder the PC's user can't write to are the usual causes.
- The PC declined: the person at the PC chose not to share its files. See the Allow prompt.
- Sign in to send files: a connection made with only a code, without an account, can't send or get files. Sign in, or send the file in the chat instead.
- A cancelled transfer removes the half-copied file, so nothing broken is left behind.
- A file with an unsafe name is skipped and not copied, to keep the PC safe.
- Still failing with no clear reason? Contact support. Find troubleshooting logs shows where the Console's error log is, in case they ask for it.
Files can only be sent while a PC is online. An offline PC can be browsed again once it's back.
Still stuck? Email [email protected] with your app version (Settings, About) and what you were trying to do. In the app, Help, Contact support fills that in.
