Switch from Action1

Switch from Action1 for remote access people agree to

Action1 is a patch and endpoint management platform with remote desktop for Windows endpoints. Its documentation says that if a signed-in user doesn't answer the connection prompt within 15 seconds, the remote session starts automatically, and its free subscription comes without customer support.

RemoteAccessApp waits for the person at the PC: nothing is shown until they click Allow, unless unattended access was switched on at that PC. Add chat, commands on many PCs, and SSH, SFTP, RDP and VNC, free.

  • Consent that waits
  • Chat with the user
  • SSH, SFTP, RDP and VNC

Fed up with Action1? Here's what changes

  • Silence counts as yes

With Action1: Action1's documentation says a signed-in user is prompted to allow or deny, the prompt stays for 15 seconds, and if they don't respond, the session starts automatically.

With RemoteAccessApp: Nothing is shown until someone at the PC clicks Allow; the prompt denies the request by itself after a short wait. Only unattended access, switched on at the PC, lets you in without a click. Consent is on by default on every PC, which also comes up in switching from MeshCentral and switching from Datto RMM.

  • No support on the free plan

With Action1: Action1's licensing page says customer support isn't available within a free subscription unless you buy it.

With RemoteAccessApp: RemoteAccessApp's help center is open to everyone, with the same answers the app shows under Help, and the free plan has no feature trial to run out.

  • Servers need another tool

With Action1: Remote desktop covers your Windows endpoints, not the SSH and SFTP work on your Linux servers.

With RemoteAccessApp: SSH tabs, SFTP and FTP file managers, server-to-server copies, RDP and VNC in the same app.

More reasons to switch

  • Chat with the person

Chat both ways from the banner, with pictures and files, during every session. Remote control and chat are part of the app itself, not an add-on, as switching from Atera explains.

  • Commands on many PCs

Run one command on several PCs from the Windows app, free, with each PC's output and exit code. There's no appliance or gateway to set up first; switching from BeyondTrust goes through that.

  • Updates and apps

Install Windows updates on many PCs at once for free. With Pro, winget apps and schedules too. The command shows first.

  • You want people to actively agree before you see their screen.
  • You want to chat with the person you're helping.
  • You also look after Linux servers.

Switch from Action1 in 2 minutes

What carries over, what doesn't and tips for each kind of tool are in the switching guide.

  1. Step 1: Create a free RemoteAccessApp account

Sign up with your email. No card is needed, and the free plan covers 5 PCs.

  2. Step 2: Install RemoteAccessApp on each PC you want to reach

Download the installer, choose Set up this PC and sign in, or type the 6-digit setup code from Add a PC on your dashboard. It installs without administrator rights, next to Action1.

  3. Step 3: Turn on unattended access on your own PCs

If nobody will be at a PC when you connect, switch on unattended access at that PC (right-click the RemoteAccessApp icon in the taskbar tray). How to do it safely.

  4. Step 4: Connect from the app or a browser

Open the RemoteAccessApp Console on your own PC, or sign in at remoteaccessapp.com in any browser, and try each PC while you still have the old tool as a fallback.

  5. Step 5: Keep your patching where it is, or move it

RemoteAccessApp can install Windows updates on many PCs at once from the website's dashboard, free. With Pro, it can also install winget apps and run on a schedule. It doesn't set patch policies like an RMM platform, as switching from NinjaOne explains.
